A Goal Programming Approach to Aggregate Planning of Production and Work Force

Management Science 1974 20(12), 1569-1575
This paper presents a goal programming approach to the problem of scheduling aggregate production and work force. The approach is illustrated via two case applications. Numeric results are derived and compared to those of two other approaches. The results suggest that goal programming may be an effective approach for solving certain types of planning models.

A Computational Algorithm for Multi-Contract Bidding Under Constraints

Management Science 1976 22(7), 788-798
This paper considers a multi-contract bidding situation in which the contracts are interrelated because of limited productive facilities and because of budgetary constraints. A dynamic programming model and computational algorithm are presented which derive a bidding strategy which maximizes total expected return from all contracts subject to the constraints. The computational algorithm is efficient in terms of storage capacity required and computation time.

Xylazine spreads across the US: A growing component of the increasingly synthetic and polysubstance overdose crisis

Journal of Financial Economics 2022 233, 109380
Xylazine is increasingly present in overdose deaths, linked to the proliferation of illicitly-manufactured-fentanyls. Ethnographic accounts associate it with profound risks for PWID. Nevertheless, many jurisdictions do not routinely test for xylazine, and it is not comprehensively tracked nationally. Further efforts are needed to provide PWID with services that can help minimize additional risks associated with a shifting drug supply.
