Senator Sherman's bill: iith July I862, Bill introduced in the House by Mr. Hooper of Massachusetts "to provide a national currency secured hy a pledge of United States stocks, and to provide for the circulation and redemption thereof." Read a first and second time and referred to the Committee of Ways and Means. July I2, I862, resolution to print 5,000 extra copies referred to the Committee on Printing. July I5, I862, resolution to print 5,000 extra copies laid oni the table. January 7, I863, Mr. Hooper introduced a new bill. The nlumber of the former bill was 568, that of the present bill was 656. Referred to the Committee of Ways and Means and ordered to be printed. January 8, I863, reported adversely upon by Mr. Stevens of the Committee of Ways and Aleans.
