An Industry-Occupational Forecast Incorporating Technological Change for Local/Regional Manpower Planning.
Academy of Management Review
1976
In this article the authors develop a model for forecasting future manpower demands in a variety of industries, in a variety of regions in the United States. They note that by knowing what the future demand will be in a given industry organizations can compare supply and demand and determine if labor shortages or surpluses are likely to occur. This information can in turn be used by policy makers to decrease gaps between supply and demand and improve conditions for both employers and employees. The authors discuss how improving technology affects the demand for labor and since this is a continual process being able to continually forecast labor demand will benefit employers immensely.
